What is Sea Scouts?
The Sea Scouts
program is for young men and women ages 12
to 17 who are interested in developing their
leadership, communication and seamanship
skills. Sea Scouts must be committed to
courage, discipline and community service.
The Curriculum use for the program is
developed by Boys Scouts of America and Boys
& Girls Clubs.
 What are the
Time Requirements?
Sea Scouts must
meet a minimum of once per week for group
meetings and training. Generally meetings
are early evening or Saturday afternoons.
Special group activities and projects will
become available in addition to weekly
meetings. The program is year round.
What is the Cost?
The cost is a
$50 per year program fee and $25 for Boys &
Girls Club membership. Uniforms are
included in the fee.
 What
will Sea Scouts Learn?
Sea Scouts will
study a broad range of topics. They
will learn leadership and communication
skills, history of the Coast Guard,
importance of community services, proper
care and maintenance of sea vessels, and
safety. They will be given the opportunity to advance in rank and
participate in advanced training programs
designed to prepare them for a career in the
Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Corps or just
simply get involved in the Coast Guard Aux.

 Do I Have to
Wear a Uniform?
Once a scout
attends a two week training program and show
evidence of commitment, they will be issued
a cap, sweatshirt and T-shirt. They
will be issued at no extra charge due to
donations from community entities.

Will Cadet Training and Participation
Detract from my Academics and Other School
Functions?
Not likely.
All Sea Scouts must maintain a "C" average
each quarter. All Sea Cadet activities
occur during no-school hours.
Allowances will be made on occasion for
those who participate on a school sports
team, choir or other school function.
This will be granted on a case by case
situation.
 Will I have to Go
Out to Sea?
No. Only
scouts who have attended special training
and participated for a minimum of one year
as well as achieved the rank of "Ordinary
Seaman." All those who qualify must
have written permission of a parent, pass a
physical exam and have the permission of
ranking scout and senior member of the USCG:
