TWILIGHT PROGRAM INFO
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As part of the Twilight Learning Center, the
Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Lane County
will be improving and moving their Teen
Program activities from the Teen Center on
1601 15th Street to Siuslaw
Middle School and Siuslaw High School
starting on Monday, October 5, 2009.
Twilight is an exciting new program being
offered through the Siuslaw School District
and the Boys and Girls Club for youth grades
1-12, and is made possible by the 21st
Century Community Learning Centers grant.
Students who enroll in Twilight will be
given a USDA meal, academic
tutoring/teaching, and the opportunity to
participate in enrichment activities and
recreational experiences.
For the teens, Twilight starts right after
school at either the middle or high school,
and ends at 6:00 p.m., Monday through
Wednesday, and at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday,
throughout the school year. There will be
school buses to transport children home
after the program. However, please note
that bus transportation will not be
available until October 12, 2009. On
Fridays, teens that are registered members
of the Boys & Girls Club will be able to
check in and out of the Teen Center until
6:30pm, as usual. The Sea Scouts program
will continue to be held every Tuesday from
6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Teen Center.
The Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane
County will be cooperating with talented
community partners to provide the enrichment
activities for Twilight at each school
site. Enrichment activities might include
but are not limited to:
|
* Painting and drawing |
* Music and Dance |
|
* Nutritional education/cooking |
* Art |
|
* Outside/gym activities
|
* Games and Sports |
|
* Nature and science |
* Skits and Drama |
|
* Theme Projects |
* Special Events |
|
* Guest Speakers |
* Field Trips |
The Siuslaw School District will provide
the academic tutoring and teaching, which will
focus mostly on math and language arts.
However, students are welcome to bring any
school work with which they need assistance. There will be certified
teachers, educational assistants and
volunteers working in each building to help
students. Registration forms are available
at your child’s school or at the first
parent meeting. Please plan to attend
this important parent meeting and ice cream
social on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the
middle school, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
I am looking forward to
working with you, your child and the
community to provide fun and meaningful
experiences for the teens of Florence. If

Teen Program enrichment activities, please
